Building trust through cross border dialogue and media engagement in the Great Lakes region

This cross-border media campaign in Eastern DRC (North and South Kivu), and the border regions of Rwanda and Burundi, focuses on forced and spontaneous migration in the region.

For over 100 years, waves of migration have shaped the Great Lakes region. Cohabitation across communities, ethnicities, and nationalities has often been difficult, with mistrust and tensions occasionally leading to conflict. Tensions among ethnicities and nationalitiIes reinforce prejudices and stereotypes. Hate speech and incitement abound. This oftens leads to violence among communities.

M4D deconstructs hate speech and works for a better understanding of history, increased dialogue and constructive relations among these groups to reinforce security in the region. Its programs facilitate discussions with stakeholders, and advocate for potential solutions.
