C’est le ton qui fait la panique

In this magazine, we dissect the underlying motives of populist language.

This type of discourse tends to pit elites against the masses. It offers simplistic solutions to complex problems, in simple, direct language that is accessible to the general public.

While populist discourse appeals and mobilizes, it also divides. And in the already polarized Congolese context, this type of discourse can further exacerbate tensions.

To discuss this, two guests will be invited:

- Ithiel Batumike, political analyst at Ebuteli, the Congolese research institute on politics and violence in the DRC

- Nelson Mitovu, political actor and doctoral student at the University of Kinshasa.
