C’est le ton qui fait la panique
In this episode, we analyze the political, regional, and linguistic dynamics emerging as the conflict drags on in the east of the country and, in the west, the political landscape is being reshaped, with new alliances emerging.
These two dynamics, although distinct, seem to be reinforcing a polarization between the east and west of the country, according to analysts of the Congolese political scene. This polarization appears to be aligned with a regional and linguistic divide: Swahili, dominant in the east, and Lingala, widely spoken in the west, are becoming identity markers in this heated debate.
Is the DRC tipping toward a political, linguistic, and regional divide? How can the language we use to debate these issues either unite us or further divide us? Two guests will discuss this topic:
- Alain-Joseph Lomandja, Doctor of Social Ethics
- Maghene Deba, Journalist, Political Analyst
