Rwanda / Factual & debate
Kuki ("Why?") : This is a radio magazine that focuses on direct factual information about incidences of mass violence and genocide in the world, and how individuals involved in that violence went through a psychological development similar to that which occurred in Rwanda. The program is targeted to a more educated audience, including the country's opinion leaders. Since 2007 and the start of weekly broadcasts, the program has followed a documentary-style educative format. Each episode explains the steps that lead up to mass and group violence, with examples from civil wars and genocides around the world. The results of a recent survey indicate that Rwandan listeners greatly appreciate this discussion and debate program series on the roots of genocide, but the production team continues to develop different formats to find the most effective way to make its content more easily understood. Kuki 's radio magazines counteract tendencies toward hate and conflict by focusing directly on the dangers of manipulation, enabling listeners to position themselves as active participants in the process of resisting incitement, healing trauma and achieving peace and national reconciliation.
