Below is a selection from the many letters that have been pouring in at the Rwandan mission in recent months, with listeners' reactions to what the Great Lakes Reconciliation Project and its radio programs are accomplishing there.
" Musekeweya has taught people of all categories useful lessons to coexist peacefully and has also changed those who had evil and destructive ideologies. As youths, we should know how to distinguish good from evil. We are lucky to have a good foundation, namely Musekeweya . We should learn much from it and take it as a role model to sow the seeds of peace in our country, Rwanda."
- Jacqueline Manishimwe, Gisagara District, Southern Province
"I first of all thank you for your programs that contribute to the revival and reconstruction of our country Rwanda. Everybody should really be in their fellow colleague's shoes and we will therefore live in a friendly world spared of any hatred."
- Yves Veredianne Agahozo, Kibungo, Eastern Province
"In Rwanda, I'm the first and biggest fan of La Benevolencija's radio programs, Kuki and Musekeweya . They have taught me so many lessons including fair and non-discriminatory love, the noble attitude of helping and rescuing people who are experiencing plight even when you consider them as your enemies."
- Frank Jean de Dieu Shema, Kibogora, Western Province
"Thank you for your nice programs. It is my hope that everybody learns some lessons from them. I was as spiteful as Rutaganira, but after I have learned about Kigingi and Hirwa's coexistence I've got rid of such an evil attitude. Whenever I see someone with problems I try to approach them nowadays."
- Eric Benamahirwe, Gicumbi Dstrict, Northern Province
"Dear parents, we should learn from Musekeweya that it is no use planting seeds of hatred especially in presence of children because it ruins their minds when they constitute our hope for the future. I've been impressed by Batamuriza's behavior and attitude. She has served as a good role model for all of us. Dear fellow youths of my generation, you should look back and follow her example."
- Josephine Uwamahoro, Rusizi District, Western Province
"To my mind, Musekeweya is a light that illuminates for all Rwandans. It is an illumination of tolerance, unity, reconciliation, and development as well as of love that overcomes rifts caused by people who have harmed us and leads towards mutual forgiveness. This sends a strong signal to people appealing to them to stop blaming each other so as to share the good and bad. People of all categories including young boys and girls, adults, elderly, should take advantage of the light that has been lit free of charge by Musekeweya . We will then get satisfied and change positively."
- Deodatus Twahirwa, Gakenke District, Northern Province.
" Musekeweya has taught us how to build Rwanda's society. It also teaches us how to coexist in community by counseling one another regardless of what we are. Musekeweya is such a nice program that I would invite all people to listen to it, as it teaches how to behave in communities we live in including schools/classes and families."
- Pierre Celestin Barihamwe, Nyagatare, Eastern Province
" Musekeweya has taught me big lessons, and now I use them to advise and counsel people who are engaged in conflicts. I'm glad that they can overcome their differences, reconcile and unite. Rwanda's society needs all those examples. If all people could rid themselves of ethnic divisions and jealousy and coexist peacefully by intermarrying whereby parents let their children choose as they please, peace will prevail."
- Sayidi Sahunkuye, Nyabugogo, Kigali City
